Memorial Gifts & Donations

With great sorrow the family of John J. Andracchi announce the loss of their husband and father, on September 23, 2012, following complications related to pancreatic cancer.

John was born on August 26, 1933 in Far Rockaway, NY. He attended Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan and graduated from Far Rockaway High School. He proudly served in the US Navy after which he embarked on a 42 year long career with the Long Island Lighting Company.

A decade ago, he and his wife, Joan, moved to Wilmington, where he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. His years here in Wilmington were spent out and about in book stores, coffee houses, in the gym and along the beaches. He spent much of his time assisting animals without homes. He will be remembered by all who have met him along the way for his kindness, his philosophies on life and his encyclopedic knowledge of boxing. His family, to whom he was boundlessly dedicated, will remember him for his guidance, calming influence, and his ability to instantly appear when his helping hand was needed.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Joan, to whom he was hopelessly devoted for over 50 years; daughters, Susan Andracchi of Wilmington and Laura DiNorcia of Massapequa, NY; sons-in-law, Robert Bennett of Wilmington and Nello DiNorcia of Massapequa, NY; grandchildren, Catherine and John Bennett and Johanna and Isabelle DiNorcia.

The family would like to express heart felt appreciation to the many members of the Wilmington medical community for the wonderful care given to John over the past few months.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept 27, 2012 from 5 to 7 PM at 130 Middle Oaks Drive.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to support pancreatic research under the direction of Dr. Eileen O’Reilly at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Attn. Ms. Jill Zatorski, 633 Third Ave, 12th Floor South, NY, NY 10017; or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
