John Arthur Quinn, 90, of Bradenton Florida, died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Davis Health Center under care of Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, North Carolina.

John was born February 22, 1919 in New Rochelle, New York, son of the late John Quinn and Jenny Anderson Quinn. His wife Patricia Van Alstyne Quinn and brother William Quinn preceded him in death.

Mr. Quinn is a World War Two veteran, having served in an administrative post in England in the Army Air Force. After graduating from Pace University in New York City he began a career in accounting and became a Vice President of Grolier, Inc., then publisher of the Book of Knowledge and Americana encyclopedias.

He served for 12 years in the Auxiliary of Blake Hospital in Bradenton as a volunteer.

He is survived by two sons, Richard in Wilmington, NC and Scott in Pawling, NY. He has four granddaughters, Patricia McDonald of Newtown, Ct, Carey Girolami of Wilmington, NC, Kendel Lambe of East Lyme, Ct. and Jennifer Quinn of Bristol, Ct. He also has seven great granddaughters, Jennifer, Shannon and Megan McDonald, Katie and Becky Girolami and Taylor and Erin Lambe. He will also be missed by his two daughters-in-law, Julia Quinn of Wilmington, NC and Kristen Quinn of Woodbury, Ct. as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will have a memorial service in the spring in New England.
