Memorial Gifts & Donations

John Henry Bullins, age 83, of Castle Hayne, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.

John was born in Stokes County on August 9, 1931 in the town of Walnut Cove, NC. the oldest son of the late Buck & Phoebe Lawson Bullins. He was also preceded by two brothers Joe and wife Mary, and James wife Sarah.

In his younger years John lived in Winston Salem, NC and worked ten years for the Home Office of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts establishing new stores in southern states/cities. The next thirty three years he was employed with Forsyth and the New Hanover County Board of Education.

John was very active for several years with the Lions Club of Wrightsville Beach as well as Hanover. He served three combined terms as President for the two clubs. It gave him great pleasure to play Santa for children who came to the park at Wrightsville Beach at Christmas. He enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity of working alongside fellow Lions and being a part of initiating and carrying out projects in the local communities and for the Lions Cottage at the North Carolina Boys and Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw. Raising funds for the blind was also very rewarding. John enjoyed Nascar Racing, watching wrestling, gardening, he was a championship bowler and a motorcycle enthusiast in his younger years.

John came to faith in Christ as Savior when he was 57, became an active member and elder of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church for 12 years, serving with the gifts God had given him. He enjoyed doing projects alongside others to improve the building and grounds and fundraising to make the complete restoration of the building and grounds possible, then served 12 years in the same capacity at McClure Memorial Presbyterian Church in Castle Hayne, NC

John suffered a stroke in 2009 and so ended his many years of activity. He did not lose his gift of never meeting a stranger and making people laugh and feel happy and cared about.

To be thanked and recognized for their graciousness and being there for us are our neighbors, friends, and family. We would like to especially thank our niece Jennifer Wilkes who untiringly was there for us and Lower Cape Fear Hospice which provided wonderful care.

John is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Nancy Gore Bullins; one daughter, Linda Alexander and husband Bob of Winston-Salem; one son Gary Bullins of Winston-Salem; grandson Cameron Alexander and great granddaughter Riley of Winston-Salem; grandson Scott Alexander and wife Jill of Winston-Salem; Special Cousin Mary Meijboom and husband Bert of Pilot Mountain; stepson and friend, Jeff Clemmons and wife Jan, granddaughter Lacey Clemmons, grandson Linden Clemmons; our pet Sophie his protector and friend.
