John Henry Benton, Sr.

John Henry Benton, Sr. of Leland, NC, died Friday, January 21, 2011, at Brunswick Cove Living Center, Winnabow, NC.

He was born in Wilmington, NC, on November 7, 1936, the son of the late Arthur and Geneva (Mintz) Benton and was preceded by three half brothers, Lester, Arthur, and Joseph Benton.

John was a member of the Bridge of Life Community Church. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and going to dirt track racing, where he was a flagman at the Leland Racetrack. He loved his grandchildren and going to McDonalds at night to visit with friends.

Surviving besides his wife, Lillie Irene (Cooper) Benton are: a son, John Henry Benton of Leland, NC, three brothers, Bobby Ray Benton and wife Lillian, Neil D. Benton, and Leroy Benton and wife Brenda, all of Leland, NC, a half sister, Nellie Flowers and husband Hulan of Bolivia, NC, three grandchildren, Zachary Deans, Delany Benton, and Susan Benton and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Bridge of Life Community Church, 2220 Mercantile Dr., Leland, NC (In the Leland Industrial Park).

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Bridge of Life Community Church, with the Rev. Jerome Bullard and Rev. Kenny Emanuel, Jr. Burial will follow in King Memorial Cemetery, Leland, NC.

Pallbearers are: Larry Prim, James Deans, Alton Fairfax, Robert Mintz, Ben Mizel, and Bob Richie.
