John Lester Hughes, 57, of Kure Beach, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center.

Born in Washington, D.C. to William and Audrey Hughes, he lived most of his life in Maryland.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, playing games (especially poker), watching movies and loved listening to music, mostly classic rock, but anything that was Bruce Springsteen.
John is preceded in death by his mother and father and his beloved sister Kathie Windsor of Waldorf, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Joan Suzanne Hughes of Norfolk, Virgina. He is also survived by his only daughter Jessica Taylor of Carolina Beach, NC and her husband Timothy Taylor Jr.; his sister Sandie and Henry Bright of Saluda, NC; his nieces and nephews: Bekie and Jimmy Edwards of Bowie MD; Michael Stone of Capital Heights, MD; Tracie and Scott Johnson of Waldorf, MD; Jackie Windsor of Waldorf, MD as well as his many loving friends.

I can recall many memories of John. He was an amazing man and father to his daughter Jessica. I myself have been so blessed to have become a part of their family. John was often quiet in his lazyboy either listening to music or watching great movies. He was always so hysterical, witty, and always made anyone laugh! He had the greatest humor. His love for animals was astounding. I always like to think he was a true animal whisperer because animals sense such great people. All the animals loved him including my dog and they just lured to him. He will be greatly missed by so many. I'm so glad I can call his daughter Jessica my best friend and most importantly a sister. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
