John Louis Thorp

October 6, 1946 - May 31, 2022
John Louis Thorp

John Louis Thorp, 75 years old, of Wilmington, NC went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. He was born in Paducah, Kentucky on October 6, 1946 to Ray Thorp and Ola Day who preceded him in death.

John had many accomplishments throughout his life. He retired from General Electric, where he gave many years of service as a machine operator. He never met a stranger, made friends everywhere he went, and always carried the message of God to everyone he could. He loved to work and play hard. He spent years on his bowling team and pool league, but his favorite was always the golf course. However, the most important things in life to him were God and his family, and he devoted himself thoroughly to both.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Randi Thorp, his only child Holly Thorp Coleman and wife Ellie, step daughter Jennifer Smith Handschuh and husbands Rich, step son Marlian Smith and wife Gabriel, sister Evelyn Thorp Yon, brother Bob Thorp, grandchildren; Daniel Handschuh,  Justin Handschuh , Emma Handschuh, Caleb Handschuh, David Handschuh and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 2:30 pm at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation – Wilmington Chapel.

John was a wonderful man, and such a good friend. I will miss him terribly and always cherish his memory. He was such a devout Christian, a great father and husband, and about the best friend a man could have.
