John M. Corbett

January 17, 1946 - May 1, 2016
John M. Corbett

John Monroe Corbett Sr “Captain Fixer”, 70, of Leland, NC passed away early Sunday morning.

He was born on January 17, 1946 in Wilmington, NC, a son of the late Walter Monroe Corbett and Juanita Collins Corbett.

He is survived by his wife Rachel Watson Corbett, his son John Jr., and his daughter in law Karen from Hayes, Virginia, his sister Carolyn Corbett Ezell which he affectionately called “Sis” and her husband George of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

He was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church and a born again Christian that loved and followed the Lord.  As a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was adventurous and loved the outdoors.  He was an avid fisherman, scuba diver, a commercial pilot, motorcycle rider, and loved to travel with his wife Rachel. He was loved, admired, and respected by every one that knew him as they affectionately called him Fixer for his ability to repair anything that was broken.

He was an Airframe and Powerplant/Inspection Authorization for aircraft and kept a lot of fellow pilot’s airplanes mechanically sound and safe in the air for many years.

His wife Rachel of over 47 years was his soulmate and you never saw one without the other too far behind.

Everyone is invited to visit with the family at 10:00 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am held at Faith Baptist Church in Delco, NC on Thursday, followed by a graveside service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Faith Baptist Church PO Box 469, Delco, NC 28436-0469.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness” 2 Timothy 4:7

John was a man who truly made this world a better place for us all. Though his vast work talents were legend and we'll respected, I often found his wisdom and example of how to live a wonderfully rich, diverse, and adventuresome life to give true inspiration. His devotion to Rachel and Butch, his friends, his faith community, and his rock solid Christian Faith will always be a sustaining example to myself and Margaret. John was our dear and loved friend.

Rachel I'm so sorry ,We will miss him terribly at Stag Air Park. I always enjoyed working and talking to John about airplanes, fishing, and any other thing that came up while he was at Stag. I probably will not be able to make it to the service but will be thinking of John and you. My condolences.
