John Richard Magyar, 73, a resident of the Porters Neck Community passed away on Saturday April 9, 2011.

John was a proud veteran of the US Navy and was retired as a sales representative from Moore Business Forms. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Wilmington, NC where he enjoyed being with his new friends, living near the beach, playing golf and tennis. During his retirement, he represented PG Direct business forms and worked for Stevenson Honda as a courtesy car driver.

John is survived by his wife Carole Magyar; two sons, Mark Magyar and wife, Tracy, and Scott Magyar and wife, Brigette; grandchildren, Cassidy, Miriam, Lydia, Victoria Magyar and Jodi Reagan; brothers and sisters, Lewis Robert Magyar, Jr., Donald William Magyar, Loretta Marguerite Vicentini, Judith Annette Danner, Les James Magyar, and Mary Jane Maskowski .

A memorial service will be 3PM Friday, April 29, 2011 at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation Chapel.

    I knew John from a distance, in a way. Many evenings, I take walks around the neighborhood, and as often as possible I stop to play with Ellington, who's always up for a game of catch. John was unfailingly welcoming and friendly--quite nice about finding a stranger tossing a tennis ball in his back yard near dark. He invited me to stop by anytime. Though I'm better acquainted with Ellington than I am with Carole, I want her to know that I was saddened to learn of John's passing, and my condolences go out to her and the rest of the family.

    Carole, John was one of our favorite people. So easy to be around, great sense of humor. He only had two speeds: slow and stop. I always loved that about him. We worked together on a lot of woodworking projects for the Club, and of course tennis. I always enjoyed his company. Always a pleasure. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. You have made a lot of wonderful friends here. We will all miss him.
