” I was made to Worship”

John Robert Maples was born on September 12, 1955 in Laurinburg North Carolina and went home to be with Jesus on January 4, 2024.

Our Lord brought John and Teresa, the love of his life together at Global River Church, and the following year they married on September 14, 2013. Together they have three daughters, one son, and two grandchildren, as well as four brothers, two sisters and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was a hard worker all of his life from starting his own lawn care business as a young teenager and to serving in our community for close to 40 years as a postal worker.

At home, John enjoyed working the soil, planting seeds, then reaping the harvest, as well as grilling for their friends and writing worship songs. Their love of creation often took John and Teresa to the mountains, where they hiked the trails and went horseback riding. And if you ever talked with John, you knew every conversation led to Jesus!

John began Kingdom Men in 2016 where he passionately taught the word, lead worship, mentored, and encouraged the men to do the same. Out of his hearts desire, our Kingdom Men worship team was birthed. John also taught several of our youth to play the guitar, and starting a love for music.

John will be remembered for his beautiful voice and guitar picking, but more importantly, for his unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. I am so very proud of my faith-filled warrior husband. He is the strongest person I’ve ever been blessed to know. He left this world with Grace and Dignity, knowing that God is always good, faithful, and just, and one day we would be united once again. Until then, I love you, John Maples!

    Bobby Pierce (TJ) says:
I met John at the post office ,he was bigger than his physical size..he really walked the walk of his faith and that's what drew me to him. He was a great guy and I looked forward to our talks..he invited me to worship with a small men's group up once a week and I was flattered. He became a brother and he called me one...I hated when he had to leave but he was so strong to stay as long as he did. I respected John and missed him..we continued the prayer group but it was never the same...He made sure that I would see him again...I know l will...Rest in peace Brother
