Johnny Springer Stirewalt 72, of Wilmington died Monday, February 14, 2022 at Novant/New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

John was born in Albemarle, NC the son of the late John Odell Stirewalt and his living mother Virginia Elizabeth Springer. He was the youngest member on a competitive baseball team in his youth. He graduated from West Stanly High School, and was on the Dean’s List at UNC Charlotte. As a Residential/Commercial Architect, he was proud to design over 100 houses on Figure 8 Island. He lived many years on Wrightsville Beach and enjoyed sailboat racing with WBORA. John also enjoyed taking boat rides and casting for seasonal fish in Pages Creek with his friends and family. He loved to play guitar, and affectionately referred to it as pickin’ and grinnin’, making music with his merry band of “pickers”. He was raised by a family of musicians who joined in on many musical occasions. He was surrounded by a jovial glow that he shared with old and new friends and family. He served his country Honorably in the United States Navy, and was an active member of LifePoint Church.

He is survived by his mother Virginia Springer Griffin; daughter Rene Stirewalt Klotz and husband Andrew; son Jason Stirewalt; sisters Susan Rene S. Miller; Bobbie Ann S. Morgan; Debra Joy S. Treece; Kimberly Robin S. Briles brothers William Dale Stirewalt; Jeffrey Van Stirewalt and Joseph Dean Stirewalt. Four grandchildren Lucy; Conrad; Jason and Jacob; one great-granddaughter Everleigh ; and one long-trusted employee Maria L. Williams.

A memorial service is planned for 1:00 PM Saturday February 26, 2022 at Lifepoint Church 3534 College Road Wilmington, NC 28412. Please consider wearing a mask to the service.
