Johnie Nathaniel Collins, Sr., 88 of Wilmington passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Liberty Commons.

He was born in Stokes County, NC on July 15, 1923 to the late John Henry Collins and Laura Augusta McKinney Collins.

Johnie was retired as a transport driver with Frito-Lay with over 32 years of service and over 3,000,000 miles accident free. He was a proud veteran of WW II serving in the US Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty G. Collins; three children, Barbara Petry (Victor), Patricia Blakey (Larry), and Johnie N. Collins, Jr., (Victoria); six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; and one sister, Asilee Smith of York SC.

Memorial services will be 2:30 pm Wednesday , August 24, 2011 at Fellowship Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 5709 Murrayville Rd., Wilmington, NC 28405.

Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Liberty Commons and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the excellent care and attention given to Mr. Collins.

    I have so many precious memories of seeing the Collins family when I preached at Fellowship. I remember the pastor and I visiting the room of Bro Collins this past March when I last preached there. I know God has a city where God's children will gather again soon.
