Joseph Theodore Cassar, age 81, long time resident of Alpine, NJ until taking up residence in Wilmington, NC, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013.
Joseph started as a charter accountant in Madrid, Spain, he then moved to North Africa to work for Rogers Exploration, Inc., followed by International Comptroller for Sinclair Med. Pet. Co. In 1969, Sinclair Oil brought him to the US; Sinclair merged with Atlantic Ridgefield and moved to Los Angeles, Joe chose to stay in the Northeast. He continued his career with Hess Shipping, then Burma Oil as Vice President of finance and was instrumental in contract negotiations for natural liquid gas. Burma Oil relocated to London, Joe chose to stay in the US and work as an independent consultant for World Bank.
Joe loved to travel, following the stock market, and spending time with his family.
Joe was the beloved husband of Julia, the cherished father of Kim Karach and her husband John, Nora Cassar, and Irene Whelan and her husband Kevin; the adored grandfather of Joseph, James, Christopher, Kelsey, Jessie, Dylan and his predeceased granddaughter Erin; the great-grandfather of Alexa and Victoria; the loving brother of Mary, Teresa and her husband Armando and predeceased sister Virginia; and uncle to Sarah, Julia, Lisa, Theresa, Louisa, Vivian, Selina and Antonio.
He will be missed and remembered for his warm smile and loving demeanor.
There will be a private service at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
A memorial service will be held in NJ later this spring.
