Josephine G. Brent

Josephine G. Brent devoted school teacher of 55 years died on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Jo, as she was affectionately called, resided the last 3 years of her life at Bradley Creek Health Care Center.

Prior to that she and her late husband, Gil Brent, resided at Waterford in Leland. They originally made their home in Albany, NY, where Jo was a teacher at the Icababod Crane High School in Albany as a Spanish teacher. Jo was originally from Italy and came to this country in 1946. She was fluent in Italian, Spanish, French and English. After retiring in 1993 from the NY education system and moving to Wilmington, she once again did the thing she loved and started teaching in New Hanover County at Laney High School where she taught for 10 years. Jo then continued to teach as a substitute until she was 80 years old. Her friends from New York said she loved her students and that they loved her.

Jo and her husband shared many great experiences in their private plane and later boating the NC Intracoastal Waterway. Jo shared her love for animals and especially her Siamese cats with her husband. Most everyone that met her commented on her teasing manner and wit. She will be missed by all.

To honor her memory memorial donations should be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.

Jo was a neighbor of mine at Bradley Creek. Everyone valued her dry sense of humor. She will be missed by her dining table mates.
