Joyce Moore Burris

June 29, 1931 - June 29, 2017
Joyce Moore Burris

On June 29th, 2017, we lost a true angel on earth. She was born in Little Washington, NC on June 29th, 1931 to Edward and Annie Moore. She now joins her mother, father, sisters (Ella Porter and Ruth Darden), brothers (Huck and Robert Moore), one and only love, Donald Burris, and her son Donnie Burris.

Joyce and Don Burris were married on April 8, 1950 and were married for 50 years before he passed. Her heart was one full of love as she not only loved him, but also committed her heart to help others as she stayed involved at her church, Wesley Memorial Methodist Church (The Pumpkin Church). She kept her hands busy as she made numerous crafts for the church bazaars and to raise money for Order of the Eastern Star to donate to the college fund and girls going to what is now known as Camp Grayrock. She always said she had to keep her hands busy and a smile on her face, and this is how most of us remember her.

She joined the Order of the Eastern Star in 1973 and served as Electa for over 40 years. She used this opportunity to also be a part of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She loved spreading her Christian faith and all of her endeavors prove that to be true.

In what many would consider spare time, she loved to travel with her husband, children, her church circle, Young at Heart, friends, and Eastern Star family.

She is survived by: her sister Shirley Moore, brother Bill Moore, daughters- Ann Mintz and Linda Woodall, and grandchildren- Barry Mintz, Tiffany Housand, George Burris, Beth Murray, Jennifer Mintz, Anna Lee, and Sarah Hill. She also has 14 great grandchildren.

Visitation with family will be on July 9th, 2017 at 2pm located at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church (1401 South College Road, Wilmington, North Carolina 28403) followed by a memorial service at the same location at 3pm. Guests are welcome to stay after the service for finger foods and fellowship to celebrate the life of Joyce Burris.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, OES Grand Chapter Scholarship Fund, or other charity of your choice.

    Dorothy ("Dot") English says:
Joyce and I worked closely together at Roland-Grise for many years. She was a joy to work with, and I could not have accomplished great things without her by my side. Joyce, I will see you in Heaven one day very soon, Dot
