Juanita C. Hyatt

November 12, 1943 - December 1, 2021
Juanita C. Hyatt

Juanita C. Hyatt, age 78 of Leland passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

She was born in Pender County, NC on November 12, 1943 to the late James Hayden Charles and Doris Rae Malpass Charles. She was the widow of the late Thomas David Hyatt, who passed away in 2015.

Juanita worked in the credit department at Sears Roebuck in its former Hanover Center location. After she left her position to raise her family, she re-entered the workforce working in the credit department at Lowes Home Improvement (former Kerr Avenue location), holding the title of Credit Manager. She retired from Lowes in 1999 after 12 years of service.

Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends. Having been blessed to enjoy early retirement, she and David spent their golden years together and loved taking spontaneous day trips to Southport or Burgaw. You would often see her out at community functions and she was a previous community volunteer for Leland in the town’s early beginnings.

Juanita is survived by one son, Thomas L Hyatt (Chris); three daughters, Sally Hyatt Lewis (Craig), Joyce Hyatt Benton (Jack), and Evelyn Thomas (Shawn); a brother William “Buddy” Charles; two sisters, Carolyn Replogle (David), and Jean Hines (Jim); five grandchildren (Shauna, Ian, Isaac, Brent and Katelyn) and 6 great-grandchildren (Bobby, Brenden, Rhiannon, Olivia, Landon and Greyson); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Lanckton and a great-granddaughter, Cloey Hyatt.

Visitation will be held Friday December 3, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed below.

Her funeral will be held Saturday December 4, 2021 at 11:00am at Wilmington Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Billy Fowler. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Her pallbearers will be Jimmy Hines, Randy Hines, Garrett Hines, Bobby Treen, Bobby Treen, Jr. and Will Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory with a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for her granddaughter Katelyn Thomas.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Comfort Keepers for the wonderful care and companionship they gave to their mother. She truly enjoyed each and every one of you.
