Juanita Mae White Hale 86, of Wilmington died Monday November 1, 2021 at the Woodbury Center in Hampstead.

Nita was born in Wilmington on December 16, 1934 the daughter of the late Julius Oliver White and Nellie Mae Hale White. She was the widow of Lester Porter Hale who preceded her in death on March 19, 2018. She was also preceded in death by sister Diana Powell and baby brother Jerry White.

She was known too many by different names from Ms. Nita, Nana, Nanny to Mama but whatever you called her, you loved her the minute you met her! Her talents were endless and despite sewing for Broadway and Walt Disney, her true loves were her family and working in her yard. Mama was the epitome of a southern lady and put everyone else’s needs before her own. If you walked through her door, she instantly offered you a Pepsi and something to eat. She was an excellent cook and made the best homemade biscuits. She adored her family, her 2 daughters and all of her grandbabies. Her legacy will forever live through each one of us and all that she taught us. She will be terribly missed but we find comfort knowing she’s back in our Daddy’s arms, who was the love of her life, until we see her again. With a Pepsi in hand, we raise a toast to the strongest, kindest, most loving lady and thank God for loaning her to us for 86 years.

Surviving are her daughters Julie Helton and husband Alvin; Treesie Paradis and husband Stan; five grandchildren Summer Mehalko and husband Jason; Corey Helton; Carter Paradis and wife Jessie, Matthew Paradis and wife GiGi and Kevin Paradis and wife Cindy, four great-grandchildren Dylan and London Mahalko and Isabella Tyler and Brielle Kellum Paradis.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Woodbury Center for their excellent care there and a special thanks to Ed Cornish and Angel Bloodworth, as well as the Lower Cape Fear Hospice care team.

Treesie and I became fast friends after meeting online over a year ago. Although I am in Canada Treesie and Stan have become like family! My heart goes out to all of you at this time and although I never met your beautiful momma in person? I felt I knew her through videos and pictures shared. Love and prayers to all of the family sending love and light. Kathy, Jamie and Jayden ♡

Miss Nita was my favorite resident. I am so sorry to hear this. I loved her dearly. I will treasure her sewing machine I have for the rest of my life. I could sit and talk with her for hours. Again so sorry.
