Julia B. Petroro, age 89, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the caring and loving North Chase Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, with family by her side.

She was born May 25, 1928 in Queens NY to Antonio & Maria DiGiacomo.

Julia enjoyed sewing and gardening.  She worked in retail for a time.  She also worked for the Convent of St. Mary Magdalene in Queens NY, where her children attended school.

Her family was her biggest joy in life.  Cooking for family gatherings, doting on her grandchildren, telling stories, playing cards and, of course, at every occasion there were always the “goodies” …. cookies, candies and homemade ice cream that she had lovingly made.

Julia was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and the beloved wife of Michael V. Petroro for 62 years, before his passing in 2010.

She always loved visiting North Carolina and in 2011 her family helped her move to Wilmington.

The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring people at North Chase Rehab Center as well as Elderhause PACE for all their love, support and care.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 25th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and then again 6:00 – 8:00 PM that evening at Wilmington Chapel.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 26 at Wilmington Chapel.  Julia will be interred with her beloved husband in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY. The family will gather by 1:00PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764 to process to the cemetery.

    I will never forget the first time I met Julie. I was 12 years old and my mother had thrown a party in our home. Julie was dancing with my brother Mike when he got fresh with her and she balled off and slapped sim. She turned to me and smiled and she won my my heart as well as my brothers. That was 72 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. So many great memories and laughs alongTon the wa and will always remember your sweet and kind nature. Rest In Peace Sweetheart.
