Julia Marguerite Brown

Julia Marguerite Brown

Julia Marguerite Brown, 41, died on September 6, 2011 following a battle with colon cancer. As she died, her expression changed from one of pain to a beautiful and peaceful smile. Born on October 8, 1969, Julie lived most of her life in Wilmington, graduating from Hoggard High School and UNCW with a degree in nursing. During her all too brief career, she worked at NHRMC, Carolina OB-GYN, and Wilmington Maternal Fetal Medicine. Julie delighted everyone with whom she worked. Her skills, compassion, and delightful sense of humor brought her the respect, love, and admiration of patients and colleagues alike. Her faith in God kept her centered in life and comforted during her illness.

Surviving are members of her family, especially her son, Ethan Brown; sister Ana Boudreau (husband Mark), mother Donna Sutton (husband Hobbs), father Robert T. Brown (wife C. Sue Lamb); nieces Julia, Lauren and Katherine Boudreau; most beloved of many cousins Tim Ferris; uncles Ned and Jay Ferris; and step-brothers Hobbs Sutton III, Hunter Sutton, Grant Sutton, and Will Snyder.

Her many friends, colleagues, patients, and teachers have their favorite memories of Julie’s compassion, generosity, and sense of humor. Julie’s love and skills as a mother are shown in Ethan’s character, love for life, and curiosity, as well in the devotion of her nieces. Julie brought more meaning and joy to more people in her all too brief life than most of us do in a full lifetime. We have no words to describe our sense of loss.

We express appreciation to her medical team for their skilled and compassionate care: nurse Kristen Hatcher; staffs at the Cameron Women’s Center and Lower Cape Fear Hospice; physicians Steven Crawford, Chris McKinney, Ellis Tinsley, and most especially, Dr. Kenneth Kotz and staff at Hanover Medical Specialists. We also thank Julie’s many friends and colleagues, who continue to support Ethan and her family, for their caring and love.

Julie’s life will be celebrated at Port City Community Church on Tuesday, September 13 with visitation at 5:30 and service at 7:00 PM. Please bring a memory to record on cards provided at the church. The family will place these in a book so that Ethan and future generations of her family and others will know what a remarkable woman she was and the privilege it was to be part of her life.

Flowers are being provided at the service.
