June Helen Jacobs (nee Thompson) passed from this world with grace and dignity and surrounded by her family, Thursday September 1, 2011, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter in Wilmington, NC.
Born November 17, 1924 in Jersey City, NJ, June was the only daughter of Howard Chester Thompson and Madeline Augusta Heupler. After living for a time as a young child in Verona, NJ, June moved back to Jersey City where she resided until moving to Wilmington in 1999.
At the age of 16, June met the love of her life, Harry Jacobs. In 1945, immediately upon his return from active duty in World War II, they wed and then proceeded to spend the next 53 years together building a devoted and loving relationship. June was a full-time mom and caregiver. An avid gardener and member of the Jersey City Garden Club, she was creative, had a good sense of humor and a gift for making her home and family life extra special. A wonderful cook, June had a panache for entertaining. Their happy and full life together was paused with Harry’s sudden death in 1998.
A loyal and supportive nurturer, June was a deeply loved and admired mother who led her children by her fine example. She was the wind beneath their wings. June’s capacity for compassion and selflessness towards her family, friends and even strangers in need, was not lost on her adoring children. While many of her dear family and friends predeceased her, June continued to be blessed with many new friends who loved and cared for her during her years here in Wilmington.
June is survived by her children, Pamela Jacobs McDermott and husband Lawrence of Cape May, NJ and Naples, FL, Tina Jacobs Flohr and husband Daniel and loving granddaughters, Alexandra Grace and Jenna Rose of Wilmington, NC, and “daughter”, Carol Anne Seitz of Phoenicia, NY.
A heart-felt thanks to Dr. Mary Rudyk for her unmatched care and concern for June, and for helping the family understand that age is an attitude. The deepest appreciation is extended to the staff of Paraklay Way at Liberty Commons for the loving and devoted care to June and her family over the course of these past six years. To the staff and many volunteers at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, the family offers it’s sincere thanks for their most competent care that was so lovingly provided.
A private memorial service will be held.
