June Myree Strickland, age 47, of Leland went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 8, 2014.

She was born in Louisa County, Virginia the daughter of the late Dorothy Hix Wooten.

June was very active in the community and volunteered with numerous charities such as Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department and taking food to the Brunswick County Hospice. Her love for people and especially children was apparent in her work as principal of the after school program, being an Advocate Ad Lutetium and her current schooling for nursing at Miller Monte College. Most of all, she adored her children and family, to whom she left behind a legacy of love and wonderful memories.

Surviving are her loving husband, Frederick Strickland; son, Daniel Strickland; daughters, Angela Strickland and Catherine Strickland; brother, Ricky Duvall; sister, Vickie Chandler; and numerous other loving friends and family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Leland, 517 Village Rd NE, Leland, NC 28451.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

    June was my first cousin. We lived a ways apart but kept in touch mostly on Facebook. I was very surprised to hear of her passing, I loved her very much and miss her dearly.

    I am soo sorry for your loss. June is going to greatly missed. She did so much for my son in Belville Elementary to get him thru to Middle School. It won't be the same going to Wal-Mart and not seeing her there. Your family is in my prayers.
