Karen DeJarld of Leland, North Carolina passed away on Friday April 21, 2023.

She was a native of Silver Spring, Maryland, the daughter of the late John and Bernadette DeJarld. She was preceded in death by her precious pets, Hobbes, Scooter and Corky.

Karen was a cost and schedule analyst for IBM and Lockheed Martin in Gaithersburg Maryland, Sunnyvale, California and Boulder Colorado and returned to Maryland prior to retirement. Upon her retirement, she and Ken spent nine years in the Ozarks of North Arkansas before moving to Virginia to be closer to family. She and Ken settled in Leland, North Carolina in 2015.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Kenneth Harrelson; one daughter, Bernadette DeJarld of Baltimore, Maryland; three step-children, Richard (Laurel) of Powhatan, Virginia, Stacy (Robert Johnston) of Union Bridge, Maryland and Kristin Harrelson of Midlothian, Virginia; five grandchildren, Brittni, Andrew, Scott, Mackenzie and Rylie; one great-grandchild, Bella Mae; two sisters, Bernadette Strada of Rushville, New York and Valerie DeJarld of Leland, North Carolina.

A Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Thursday May 4, 2023 at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care, 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, North Carolina 28401.

    My deepest condolences to Karen's family. Karen and I shared a love of dance. I enjoyed seeing her in weekly line dance classes. Her presence was missed when she was too weak to continue. May she now rest in peace.
