Karen Elaine Pechersky

February 2, 1943 - August 19, 2017
Karen Elaine Pechersky

Karen Elaine Pechersky passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017.  Our mom was born in Canton, Ohio on February 2, 1943 where she still has many friends and family.  Karen graduated from McKinley High School, eventually moving to Pittsburgh, PA in the early 1960’s to start a family. Formerly married to our dad, Phillip Pechersky (5/16/1942 – 11/3/2013), she was also preceded in death by her parents, Isadore “Jack” Rudner (3/20/1987) and Daisy (Fidelholtz) Rudner (12/14/1997).

She is survived by two sons: Robert and Michael Pechersky, three grandchildren: Daniel, Joyce and Joshua Pechersky, one GREAT grandchild: Helena Pechersky and two daughters-in-law: Nancy Cox and Rhonda Pechersky.

Our mom had many friends and family. A day didn’t go by without talking to them.  I’d like to thank Joette and Hannah who have been in our mom’s life for a very long time, as well as many others. Our mom made many friends when she moved to Wilmington NC.  Charlotte, thank you for the great friendship you had with my mom.  Karen’s brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law were a large part of her life as well.  My mom always talked about the family trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey.  One of her favorite people was my dad’s mom, Mollie.  She adored her.

Karen was also a long-time mahjong player. Even as her illness worsened she found the strength and motivation to get out of the house for one of her long-time passions.  She leaves behind many friends who also loved to play and enjoy each other’s company. She was an excellent player and sometimes even won a little money.  She knew she had to keep her day job however and that was with Sears for over 30 years.

Karen moved to Wilmington NC three years ago to be closer to her kids and grandchildren. We were blessed to have her here. My mom mentioned many times how lucky she was to be near us. We were the lucky ones.

There are many people and doctors to thank for caring for our mom.  We would like to send a special thank you to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and all their caring employees. Also, a special thank you to Karen M. and to Chris and Lori T. for their love and support to our mom and us.

I think it is ironic that Jerry Lewis passed away a day after our mom.  For the last few years we would use the phrase “HEY LADY” to signal my mom that we were coming into the house. We will continue this tradition.

Now that both my brother and I have lost both our parents, we are changed forever. We will carry on what they stood for.

A private memorial service is being planned.

i was just reading the gazette to see if any of my friends have passed away. i just returned to pgh having resided in fla. as i was glazing down the column, jerry lewis name crossed my eye so i read the notice. you touched my heart! you children are so very specal & the "covode" (respect) tou all printed about your mom is priceless. she had to be "special" just to have a son & daughter who could go out of the "usual" to EXPRESS THE LOVE you have by the wonderful background your mom had, the friends the activities, etc. i am 81 yrs of age & NEVER have i read such a TRIBUTE SO WELL WRITTEN WITH SUCH INTENSE LOVE & RESPECT. i do feel some what proud of you both that you did it, while i was so wrapped up in my grief & the times were different. for what it is worth & you are grieving, but as an old fashion Jewish broad, my mom always told me, when my dad died, husband they are watching oer you,m and if our mom is then she is "QUELLING" may you all have a BLESSED LIFE TIME.

My deepest sympathies on the passing of your mother. I will never forget her great courage and strong will. She refused to let her illness defeat her. Karen was a dear friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
