Memorial Gifts & Donations

Karen Lynn Smith, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on July 16, 2023, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 62. She was born on May 21, 1961, in Danville, VA, to the late parents Jesse and Helen Dewberry.

Karen dedicated her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. Her compassion and skillful hands brought comfort and healing to those in need. Her work was not just a profession but a reflection of her kind heart and selflessness.

Outside of her career, Karen’s greatest joy in life came from her family and grandchildren. She loved them deeply and cherished every moment spent with them. Her presence brought warmth and love to family gatherings, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Karen’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her devoted husband, Frank Smith, who stood by her side throughout their journey together. She also leaves behind her two sons, William Throckmorton and Kevin Throckmorton, who were the pride and joy of her life. Karen will be dearly missed by her sister, Becky McDowell, and her brother, Ronnie Dewberry. Her memory will also live on through her precious grandchildren, Tracy, Tanner, Frankie, and Madison Throckmorton. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Kay Sunquist and a special cousin Linda Cundiff.

Karen was preceded in death by her dear sister, Brenda Dewberry Hoosier, and her brother, Eugene Dewberry. Although she is no longer with us, her presence will continue to be felt in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

A private family service will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate Karen’s life.

In her journey as a nurse, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, Karen Lynn Smith touched the lives of many. Her kind spirit and unwavering love will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love will live on through those she loved and cared for.

Goodbye my friend of my youth. I hope to see you again someday. We had some good times together back in those days and while you were going to Nursing School. I was so proud of you graduating and pursuing your career for which you studied and worked so hard. ♥️
