Kathie Lynn Heberling Tucker

Kathie Lynn Tucker, 81, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on February 28, 2023, at Trinity Grove Assisted Living Facility.
Kathie was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on January 4, 1942, to Chester Gottlieb Heberling and Dorothy Grace Lauer, and was the eldest of five children. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1960 and lived in the Quad Cities where she met and married Edward Currin Tucker, Sr.
Kathie and Edward had two children, Christopher Carr and Amy Lynn. The family lived in Davenport, Iowa; Murfreesboro, North Carolina; and Mitchell, South Dakota, before retiring to Wilmington in 1995. Kathie made dear friends everywhere she lived and maintained those friendships throughout her life. Some of her favorite memories were with her friends in the newcomer groups she joined as the family moved from state to state. These friends were truly like family and she had a beautiful gift for blessing them with constant love and encouragement.
Kathie was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa; Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell, South Dakota; St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington, and a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, also in Wilmington. Kathie was active in prayer ministry and delighted in worshiping and sharing in fellowship with her Faith family.
She was energized by her eight grandchildren and found joy in watching their many school-related and extracurricular activities. When not on the soccer field or in the performance hall supporting her grandchildren, she could be found outside caring for her plants and flowers and soaking up the beautiful Carolina sunshine. She loved walking at the beach and through Airlie Gardens with her Edward and eating out with her Friday lunch crew. She especially loved playing games with her grandchildren, always teaching them to play with integrity, never letting them win without earning it and mixing up all the rules for “Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza”.
Those who knew Kathie will remember her lovely smile, her everyday gestures of kindness, her unwavering faith and her great love for her Savior, with whom she is now reunited.
Kathie is survived by her daughter Amy Tucker-Morgan (Stephen Morgan) and their children Samuel and Benjamin; her sister Linda (Michael) Hennelly and brothers Timothy (Debbie) Heberling and David (Judy Rinehart) Heberling; her special niece and great-niece Kari and Amanda Morris; grandchildren Riley (Andrew) Baer, Nicholas and Dallas Tucker; Edward’s son, Edward (Gail) Tucker, Jr. and their children Mary Catherine (Tyler) Larson , Emily (Quenton) Foster and Evan Tucker, many other nieces and nephews, and dear friends Kris Hall and Ruth Childers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward Currin Tucker Sr., her son Christopher Carr Tucker, and her sister Jenny Heberling.
A memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran in Wilmington, NC, on April 14, at 2:00 PM and a private family service will be held in Geneseo, Illinois, in July.

“There’s never enough time.” I’ve had the special blessing being able to be called Kathie’s friend. I am so sorry to know here on earth we will no longer visit personally, over coffee or lunch at Burger King, gathering bunches of friends at each other’s homes, traveling with each other, sharing our joys and sorrows. Please, Kathie, watch for me when I again join you in Heaven. Hugs. Mary Jane
