Memorial Gifts & Donations

Karl Weston Benoy, 70 of Wilmington passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at his home with family beside him. Karl was born in Paris Island, SC on October 15, 1952; son of the late Jean Allen Benoy and Dorothy Anderson Benoy. He retired from Law Enforcement with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle as an Inspector.

Karl was guided by GOD, love, honor and duty. Next to God his family and friends were the most important thing in his life. One of the best moments in his life was when he married his bride Debra Bryant Benoy on December 27, 1968.

Karl served in the U.S. army Vietnam Era, 101st Airborne stationed in Germany. He graduated from Gardner Webb college then entered in a long career of law enforcement serving Rutherford and Wake County.  Eventually retiring from North Carolina DMV as a Inspector.

Karl was dedicated to his family and friends. He would stop what he was doing to come to the rescue of anyone in need and never met a stranger. He was most definitely a jack of all trades and a man’s man. He was the type of man that if he put his mind to something there was nothing that could stop him from achieving his goals. He even built a miniature golf course and mini skate park with ramps in his back yard for his grandkids. He loved teaching his kids and grandkids how to build different things.

Karl was a skilled hunter and fisherman. He had a passion for deep sea and competitive fishing and also loved photography and graphic designs. Rarely did you see him without a camera or video recorder capturing family moments and memory’s and that brought him great joy.

Karl was truly loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Debra Bryant Benoy, two sons, James Benoy and Michael Benoy, a brother, Steve Benoy (Pat), sister; Jeanna Benoy, Bonus daughters; Tammy Frye and Rita Berryhill, 5 grandchildren; Courtney Dawn Benoy, Timothy Justin Benoy, Hannah Nicole Johnson, John Weston Benoy and Jacob Wyatt Benoy and a great buddy; Bobby Stokes.

    Jeanna Benoy says:
Forever loved and in my heart, you are one of the best parts of my life. We laughed out lout; cried bitter tears; played cowboys and indians, cops and robbers; fought like 2 stray cats in the woods; and, forgave everything. We taught each other so many things as we journeyed together, always bound in spirit by our love of family. I will miss you until my last breath. Your nieces, Dorothy Jean and Sharon Lynn, who most assuredly always loved you, will miss you as well. Our cousin Doug Legg Jr., and our Aunt Pat Hopper have lifted you in prayer before our Father God. Rest well with the ancestors, brother. You have led us, loved us, and blessed us. Now may the Peace of our Savior, Jesus Christ bless you. Amen. Your sister, Jeanna
