Memorial Gifts & Donations

Kay Ann Loflin (née Lauter) was born on August 15, 1954, in Effingham, Illinois. She peacefully passed away in her sleep on August 24, 2023, in Wilmington, North Carolina. At the time of her passing, Kay was 69 years old.

Kay dedicated her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. For ten years, she served at Liberty Commons Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington. In the beginning, she worked on the floor, tending to patients with compassion and skill. As time went on, Kay transitioned into an administrative role, using her expertise to guide and support her colleagues.

Though her professional accomplishments were significant, Kay’s true impact was felt in the lives she touched. She was a beloved wife to her late husband, Robert Wade Loflin, and a cherished daughter to Burl and Betty Frances Lauter (née Weik). Kay’s memory will forever live on through her children, Michael Cox, Meghan Garner (Sam), and Avery Lanier, and her grandchildren, Ella Garner, Carter Cox, and Sawyer Cox.

Kay was also a loving sister to Roger Lauter (Valerie) and Michael Lauter (Nina). She leaves behind numerous extended family members, friends, and colleagues, all of whom will remember her fondly.

In her quiet strength and kind demeanor, Kay inspired those around her to be their best selves. Her warm smile and gentle words brought comfort to countless individuals throughout her lifetime. Kay’s dedication to her work and her unwavering support for her loved ones will forever be remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Kay on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Northside Church from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who made a difference in the world through her love and care.

Though Kay is no longer physically with us, her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all to live with compassion and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, Kay’s family asks that you consider a donation to Surfers Healing or to the Wounded Warrior Project in her memory. Surfers Healing is an organization that provides transformative surfing experiences for children with autism. This organization was deeply meaningful to Kay, as she believed in the power of the ocean to heal and bring joy to these remarkable children. The Wounded Warrior Project also resonates deeply with Kay, given her father’s experience as a Prisoner of War for 27 1/2 months during the Korean War. This charity supports our nation’s wounded veterans. Through these fundraising efforts, we aim to continue Kay’s legacy of caring for those who need the help and support of others.
