Kenneth Dale Loughlin (78), passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023, at his Wilmington home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 14, 1945, in Conway, SC, and spent most of his life in Wilmington, NC.

Dale was a proud graduate of New Hanover High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard, a diehard Tar Heels fan, a world traveler, a master gardener and an avid piddler. He could often be found in his backyard fussing over his plants and birdfeeders or sitting on a dock fishing and enjoying the view. He had a generous spirit and met strangers as friends. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, father and grandfather (G-Dad).

Dale was preceded in death by his father Maurice Hugo “Mick” Loughlin, mother Margaret Blackburn Loughlin, and his first wife of over 45 years, Nancy Lucas Loughlin.

He is survived by his loving wife of six years Peggy Loughlin, who stood steadfastly by his side; His sisters Linda Packer and Audrey Benton; his children Mick Loughlin (Kathleen Krill) of Louisville, KY and Ginny Morris (Josh) of Wilmington; stepdaughters Amy Campos (Kevin) of Winston Salem, NC and Holly Blankenship (Stowe) of Wilmington; grandchildren Jake and Luke Morris, Evelyn and Julia Campos, and Ben and Lillian Blankenship; and extended family.

A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Andrews on the Sound Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the service.

In honoring Dale’s memory, let us celebrate his strength, tenacity and his “never give up” spirit. He loved his family, his friends and his Tar Heels. Rest in Peace.
