Kuang Chong Chang (張仲觀), age 81, of Wilmington, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018, at his home in the warm embrace of his family.

Kuang was born in China on October 1, 1936, the son of Bo-Yao Chang and Yu-Ching Lin Chang. Kuang and his parents emigrated to Pakse, Laos in 1945 during the great depression era in China, then came to the US in 1981 with wife Elaine, six children, and his parents following the communist take over of Laos.

Kuang made a living as a chef in the restaurant business in the US. Upon retirement, Kuang became a prolific painter. He created a large collection of watercolor and ink paintings on rice paper. He was also a skilled sculptor of root vegetable carved sculptures. His favorite vegetables to carve were white and green daikon radishes, carrots, and melons. Kuang contributed his last years in managing the reconstruction of the “old Pakse Bridge” back in Pakse Laos.

Kuang is survived by his wife, Elaine Y; Children: YiFenn and her husband Bryan Strickland of Kure Beach, Jaime and her husband Chai Chang of Taipei Taiwan, Elle of Taipei, Taiwan; Samantha and her husband Pablo Nunez of San Marcos, CA.; Chia and his wife Tammy of San Marcos, CA. and Fane of San Diego, CA; Grandchildren: Jennifer Strickland of Burbank, CA.; Kaylie Strickland of Chapel Hill; Nic Strickland of Kure Beach; Chiwen Chang of NYC, NY; Jonathan Chang of Taipei, Taiwan; Kate Chang and Connor Chang of San Marcos, CA. In addition, Kuang was dearly loved by many extended family and friends.

Kuang with his peaceful, Zen-like manner will forever be missed. The many stories and jokes in his signature loud and bright voice will be fondly remembered.
