Bert was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the son of Lambert Theodore Voet, Sr. and Kaiser Lindall Voet. At age 5, Bert moved to Hollywood, Florida where he attended Broward High School and played football and baseball. He made the All American Baseball Team his sophomore year. Upon graduation he began four years of service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After the Navy Bert worked in an art gallery for two years and then enrolled in Appalachian State on a football scholarship. In 1957 he earned a secondary degree in Social Studies and Physical Education. While in college he met and married Faylene Falls Voet. After graduation they moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where he was first employed by Amoco Oil Company and then Federal Paper Company for thirty years. In his spare time he loved to fish and cook. He always gave cookies to his friends and neighbors and was often known as “the Cookie Man!” Bert loved people, especially children. And he would encourage and share about his deep faith to all who would listen.
Bert was preceded in death by his sisters Marie Slominski and Virginia Coleman. He is survived by his two brothers, Darwin Voet and Elroy Voet, his loving wife of 63 years Faylene Voet, his son Jeffrey Voet, daughter-in-law Kathy Voet and granddaughter Danielle Voet who was the love of his life.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church with Reverend John McIntyre and Reverend Tom Canady officiating. The family will receive friends in the church at 1:00 pm prior to the service. After the service there will be a gathering in the Fellowship Hall for those who wish to extend their time of visitation.
