László Drimusz

Memorial Gifts & Donations

László Drimusz, age 68, unexpectedly passed away December 20th, 2021 in the Brunswick Forest Fitness Center, Leland, North Carolina.

László was born July 8th, 1953 in Miskolc, Hungary to parents Maria Acs Drimuszné and Szilard Drimusz. László grew up in the small town of Nagykálló, Hungary and against all odds went on to attend the Technical University of Budapest where he studied electronic engineering and earned his PhD in Computer Science in 1974.
László was truly passionate about his chosen field of work and always pointed out the beauty of mathematics to those around him.

László worked at the Technical University on numerous projects including a collaboration with the Russian Space Agency in the early to mid-1980’s, building the software for the Vega 1 and Vega 2 spacecraft that were launched into space in 1984 to study Halley’s Comet. It is somewhat reassuring to know that after their successful mission these probes are still floating in space today, orbiting the Sun as little mementos of László.
While working in Hungary László was invited to work at Design Automation Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts. He accepted the offer and moved across the ocean with his wife and two young children. Later he joined Bose Corporation at a position he truly enjoyed and where he could file numerous patents on his research. His most cherished patent was for an impedance measurement system, which was used to cost effectively provide early detection of HIV/Aids positive cases from blood samples, to help deter further spread of the virus.

László was an avid badminton player, runner, swimmer and a true lover of athletics. He played badminton on a competitive level, winning numerous tournaments, and improved with age, like a fine wine. It is hard to say where he got his competitiveness – was it nature, nurture, the time if history he grew up in, or a bit of all these factors – but he loved a good race and was constantly trying to improve his performance in anything he did. He ran marathons and in 2018 he was able to fulfill a dream of biking across the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific in 58 days.

László was generous and was always willing to help anyone in need, whether newcomers to a foreign land or young people early in their careers. He would try to lift the spirits of people, building up their self-confidence like he built up his own as a child, empowering the little boy from Nagykálló to work on international scientific projects as an adult. He was a firm believer in the power of mind over matter. He was a truly selfless and modest man, adored by his grandchildren for whom he would always have so much patience and time, even in difficult times.

He will be missed dearly.

In addition to his parents, László was preceded in death by his 1st wife Eva Drimusz.

Survivors include his wife Katalin Oroszlán, daughter, Szilvia Frazier and son-in-law, Colter Frazier of, Oregon., son Gabor Drimusz and daughter-in-law Nora Fekete-Drimusz and two grandchildren Leo and Noel of Hannover, Germany., and sister Marianna Jakab and her husband Peter Jakab of Boston, MA.

There will be two celebration of life set up for László, one in Boston, MA. and another in Budapest, Hungary. Both will be at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for memorial donations to be made to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust or Oltalom Kartitativ Egyesület or Igazgyöngy Alapítvány.

Stephen Lane & Suzy Tenenbaum says:
Laszlo was a dear friend and neighbor. He was our problem solver, no matter what it was. His skills and talents were of the highest order throughout his life in work and play, and yet he was quite a humble man. My wife Suzy and I will remember him as a lover of life with always a smile and kind word. We miss you Laszlo.
