Latrelle Barker Grissom

Jayne Latrelle Barker Grissom, affectionately known as “Letty”, of Carolina Beach, died Friday, May 16, 2014.

She was born August 25, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida. Letty was preceded in death by her parents, William G. Barker and Evelyn Arndt Barker, and by her devoted and beloved husband of 36 years, Charles R. Grissom.

She is survived by her children, Jeff Motley and wife Emily, Jennifer Davis and husband Joe, Joel Motley and wife Tami; six grandchildren, Ky, Jordan, Julia, Jillian, Jacob and Jenna-Kate; and special family, Jenny Murphy and David Henderson. She is also survived by her precious Chihuahua, Margarita.

Letty had many friends that she loved and wanted to thank all of them for their prayers, support, laughs and friendship throughout the years. A special thanks goes out to friends that helped her so much on her final journey, Carol, Sally, Kitty, Marcia, Inez, Janet and her daughter, Jennifer. She wanted to also thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice House for their help and care especially her nurses Leigh, Melanie and Yolanda.
Letty wanted this poem included for all her friends:

Here lies a poor woman, who was always tired,
She lived in a house where help wasn’t hired.
The last words she said were “Dear friends, I am going..
Where washing ain’t wanted, nor sweeping and sewing;
And everything there is exact to my wishes.
In heaven loud anthems forever are ringing.
But having no voice, I’ll keep clear of the singing.
Don’t mourn for me now, don’t mourn for me never….
I’m going to do nothing, forever and ever. (Anonymous)

    Dear Letty and all the J's & Ky, for an only child your arms were always open wide. I'll remember the Christmas Tree open houses and Charlie playing Santa Claus by the Lake. Of course, you are so much more. Peace. b

    I am so sorry for your loss. Although, I do not know your family personally, I would like to share some encouraging thoughts from the Bible. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope.
