Lavelle White Long 84, of Kure Beach died Saturday April 3, 2010 at her home.

Lavelle was born in the Midway Community of Davidson County August 28, 1925 to the late Luther James and Julia Davis White. She retired after 43 years at Brown Rogers Dixon Company.

She married her high school sweetheart Joe Long in 1947 and together they had a wonderful 55 years together until his death in 2002. They built their dream home in Kure Beach where they retired in 1986. Lavelle was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and after retirement to Kure Beach she became an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a sister Virginia Mahaffey and niece Cindy Guy of Midway and a nephew Dr. Ed Mahaffey and his wife Dr. Mary Mahaffey of Watkinsville, GA.

A Memorial service will be conducted 10 A.M Wednesday April 7, 2010 at Wilmington Burial and Cremation Service. Reverend Steve Hall will conduct the service. Her cremains will be inurned at the Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Winston-Salem.

The family suggest memorials be made in Lavelle’s honor to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church 300 N. 3rd Street Carolina Beach, NC 28428.

    Today was a very sad day for us. Lavelle is a very treasured friend and with her passing there will be a empty place in our hearts. She is the kindest and most loyal person we are honored to have the priveledge of knowing for may years. She will be terribly missed but never forgotten.

    I worked with Lavelle at Brown Rogers Dixon for 12 years and have many good memories or her. She was a co-worker and most of all a friend. She and Joe were so devoted to each other. My husband and I visited with Lavelle and Joe at Kure beach several years ago and they were so happy to be retired at Kure. It is sad to lose our friends but I know she is with Joe now and content again. God bless. Lana Merritt
