Laverne Crumpler Grissom

March 19, 1936 - December 19, 2007
Laverne Crumpler Grissom

After a brief, but brave battle with Cancer, Laverne Crumpler Grissom, 71, of Wilmington, NC went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on December 19, 2007.

She was born on March 19, 1936 to the late Mosset and Oleeta Faircloth Crumpler of Clinton, NC. She was a 1956 graduate of the Rex School of Nursing in Raleigh, NC. She worked as a nurse in the Raleigh and Wilmington areas for 51 years. In order to keep giving to the Medical Profession she donated her body for Medical Research. Not only did she work as a nurse, but she was a single mother to her four children for many years and nothing was more important to her than her four children.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alice Gray-Smith. She is survived by Charles R. Grissom and their four children Chuck Grissom and wife Connie of Raleigh, NC; Mike Grissom and wife Laurie; Scott Grissom and wife Mindi; and a daughter Sandy Grissom Lloyd and husband Al, all of Wilmington. Survivors also include nineteen grandchildren; a sister Doris Winkler of Clinton, NC, a niece, and three nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Peace Baptist Church, 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC with Pastor Rudy Shepard officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Zimmer Cancer Center or Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter. The family would also like to give their love and appreciation to the staff and doctor’s at Zimmer Cancer Center and Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter. We could not have made it without their love and support.

I consider it such an honor to of know and worked with Laverne during my night shift years. Again thoughts and prayers to you! Mary K. Anderson RN

    Howard Collins says:
We at NHSO, D Squad send our condolences to the Grissom family and pray the peace of mind of the family. Paul said it best in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
