Lawrence Phelps


Lawrence Phelps (known as Larry) 86 years went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

He was born in Accotink, VA, July, 1924 to Mary J. Phelps and Elmer L. Phelps.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Charlotte E. Phelps, son Larry and wife Joyce; daughter Mary and husband Bill; four grandchildren Larry, Jr., Lynette, Judy and Kimberley; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Lawrence enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country for three years in the South Pacific. Lawrence worked at Ft. Belvoir for the Civil Service for 31 years. He started as a helper and worked up to a supervisor. He retired with Charlotte to Wilmington in 1977.

He was an avid golfer throughout his retirement. Larry and Charlotte enjoyed his retirement square dancing and socializing with friends. They were members of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church, and attended many activities.
He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and will be missed by all.

The family would like to thank Hospice and all his caregivers.

Services will be 2:00 P.M Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Cape Fear Presbyterian Church by Rev. Johnathan Watson, followed by burial with military honors at Sea Lawn Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 1:00 PM until service time.
