Memorial Gifts & Donations

Lillian “Lil” Allen, 81, of Leland, North Carolina, formerly of Springvale, Maine, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, on December 27, 2023.

Lil was born on March 7, 1942 to Willie and Loretta Plante in Sanford, Maine. After attending St. Ignatius High School, she went on to join St. Anne’s Academy in Marlboro, MA, and graduated in 1960. In 1964, Lil met her husband Jack Allen and they wed in August 1965, going on to have two children, Caroline and John Allen. Lil and her husband Jack purchased Dutile’s Shoes, re-naming it Allen’s Footwear, and successfully running the business from 1968-1996. After selling Allen’s Footwear she went on to work for Cormier Textiles.

After retiring from Cornier Textiles, Lil spent all her free time painting and spoiling Chandler, her beloved Siberian Husky. After moving to Leland, NC in 2019 she met many friends and began playing Mahjong, Mexican Train Dominos, and Hand & Foot, all while taking ballet and line dancing lessons. North Carolina brought her so much happiness, sunshine, memories, and an escape from the cold Maine winters.

Lil is predeceased by her parents, one brother and two sisters, George Plante, Constance Roy and Yvonne Roy. She is survived by her brother Charlie Plante of Sanford, Maine; her two children, Caroline and John Allen; her 4 grandchildren, Gregory Caldwell and his wife Kayla, Kaela Caldwell, Aubrey Allen, Andrew Allen and one great granddaughter Makenna Caldwell.

A Memorial Mass will be announced at a future date.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Service – Leland Chapel. Please leave condolence messages for the family on Lil’s Tribute Wall at
