Linda Kuharcik

Linda Louise (Mollenkopf) Kuharcik, age 72, of Carolina Beach, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare hospice care center following a brief illness. She was born September 6, 1947 in Bedford, Ohio to the late Theodore F. Mollenkopf and Ludmilla (Malucky) Mollenkopf and was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Kuharcik and siblings June Walker and James Scott. Linda is survived by many nieces and nephews and the extended Kuharcik family. We will miss her kind and caring heart, loving service to others, and her many gifts and talents.

Linda was a graduate of Kent State University and built her career as an interior design consultant with JC Penney and an independent commission artist. She is remembered particularly for her pet portraits and drawings of homes and buildings as well as ‘up-purposed’ artwork from recycled items.

Upon retirement, Linda and Bill relocated to Carolina Beach, NC and became active members in the beach community. Linda was a committed volunteer serving both her community and her church. She was recognized by the Fort Fisher Aquarium as a Volunteer of the Year for her dedication as well as her gardening skills. Recent activities includes being a committed volunteer at Island Cottage and The Help Center where she was affectionately known as Special K, Katie B. Hines Senior Center, Al-Anon, Federal Point Historic Preservation Society, Island Arts and Culture Alliance, and Unity Church. In 2019, she served on the planning committee for the annual Mardi Gras fundraiser supporting the Arts and Culture Alliance and achieved record donations as the chairperson of the popular Chinese Auction supporting The Help Center. She also enjoyed many hobbies which included gardening, photography, pet rescue, do-it-yourself home improvements, early morning walks on the beach, Thursday night beach music, and Britts Donuts.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Linda’s honor at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Island Cottage ( P.O. Box 876 Carolina Beach, NC 28428), The Help Center of Federal Point (P.O. Box 54 Carolina Beach, NC 28428) or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (www.lifecare.org).

The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and LifeCare as well as the support of Linda’s many local friends and church family.
