Lorraine D. Haley of Wilmington, NC died Friday, July 1, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born on December 18, 1923 in Washington D.C., the daughter of Eugene and Honora Daly. Lorraine was the seventh child in the Daly family, and is survived by her sister Margaret Daly, also of Wilmington.
She was the loving mother of seven children, Chip Haley and Gene Haley, both of Wilmington, Linnane Haley of Monaco, Kevin Haley of Lake Stevens, Washington, Eileen Haley of Wilmington, Elizabeth Baska of Atlanta, Georgia, and Steve Haley of Seattle, Washington. Her children along with her ten grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Her husband, Thomas J. Haley, the love of her life, died in 1983, and Lorraine’s final resting place will be beside him in Atlanta, Georgia where she raised her family and lived for nearly 50 years before moving to Wilmington in 2005. She was a member for many years of the Church of Saint Jude the Apostle in Atlanta, and a volunteer at Saint Joseph’s hospital. In Wilmington, she lived at Brightmore, and enjoyed many new friendships and experiences with her neighbors there.
Lorraine was an accomplished artist and an avid cook. She captured many of her special recipes in a cookbook that she published for her family, and those distintive menus will carry on through her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Atlanta.
