Memorial Gifts & Donations

Louis “Lou” Joseph Amigo was born May 18, 1934 and passed peacefully October 31, 2023 with his family at his side. For 65 years he was married to the love of his life, Helen, building a wonderful life on Long Island, NY. Lou and Helen had 3 beautiful daughters Theresa (Scott), Donna, and Jennifer (Scott), a son Louis (Suzanne) and 7 grandchildren Rebecca, Jack, Danielle, Carson, Gabby, Alex and Stephen who were his heart and soul. Lou had one sibling, Vera, with whom he had a special relationship and they loved each other dearly.

He was a man who could fix and do anything, including working on all of his cars and re-modeling the house multiple times, with a drive that was admirable. His career started as a counterman for an HVAC company, and then he rose to become vice president.

He was known for telling stories about his relatives. In Costa Rica, he once won the lottery and used the winnings to take his grandmother to the Opera where they sat in the State Box. With his cousin in Panama, he was allowed to open and close the locks of the Panama Canal.

He loved adventure. He went skydiving for his 70th birthday and hot air ballooning when he was 75. He dreamed of hang gliding off the Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro. It’s likely it’s on his to-do list in heaven.

In retirement, Lou and Helen moved to North Carolina where he spent many days at the beach. To say he loved the beach is an understatement. He would show up with his towel and blue rolling chair in tow, and every couple hours after baking in the sun he would do the papa flop, diving into the water and then swim and float and relax.

Truly a great man, Lou will be missed, but never forgotten. Go Blue!

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Basilica of St. Mary, 412 Ann St., Wilmington, 28401.
