Luretha “Rea” Brickhouse Abston, age 78 a lifelong resident of Wilmington passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Wilmington on January 6, 1945 to James Albert Brickhouse and Luretha Bell Fulcher Brickhouse.
Rea was a longtime member of Lake Forest Baptist Church and served others as a Certified Nursing Assistant until her retirement. Rea enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting the beach.
She was the widow of David Harold Abston who passed away May 14, 2015. They were married for 46 years.
Rea is survived by her son, James “Jay” David Abston and wife Keli of Rocky Point, NC and her daughter, Lynn Abston of Mt. Airy, NC. Grandchildren, Jessica Lyons and husband Josh, Katie Abston, Justin Abston and Faith Abston, and great grandchild Julia Lyons. Sister, Mary Elizabeth Bombelyn of MA, along with extended family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday July 15, 2023 at Lake Forest Baptist Church 1626 Lake Branch Drive Wilmington, NC 28401.
