Luther George Brown, age 81 a life long resident of Wilmington passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Luther was born in Wilmington on August 27, 1941 to the late George Clifford Brown and Laura Ansley Brown Cottle. Preceded in death by his son, Mark Luther Brown, two brothers, Lewis and Marvin  Brown.

Luther served with the Wilmington Fire Department and retired as a Battalion Chief with 45 years of service. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War and was discharged June 20, 1972. He was a member of Wilmington Lodge # 319 A.F & A.M., Sudan Shriners, Wilmington Shrine Club, and the Buckhead Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Burton Brown; along with extended family members, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services are being planned for 2 pm Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Sam Hill. His burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Wilmington Fire Department will provide the Honor Guard and Casket Bearers. Masonic Funeral Honors will be provided by Wilmington Lodge # 319 AF & AM.

    I wanted so much to be there today ,however,could not make it happen. I doubt if Luther ever mentioned me, but, he & I worked together at the Winn -Dixie 5th & Castle. He was my produce manager - I always told him that he was not capable of being as tough as he thought he was. I learned a lot from Luther . A good quality man.
