Magda Alvarez Hufham, age 61 of Wilmington passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

She was born in Haiti on August 10, 1961 to Serge and Irma Alvarez.

Magda was retired from the US Navy with the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. She was most recently a Certified Medial Assistant at Coastal Family Medicine.

She is survived by her children, Johnathan Bentley, Ezekiel Bentley, and Vania Hurlburt; her grandchildren, Roman Bentley (11), Elaina Blake (9), Charlotte Bentley (6), Maple Bentley (4), Nova Bentley (2), Aria Bentley (2), and Magda “Maggie” Bentley (3 months); one brother Alex Alvarez and preceded in death by her sister, Sara Alvarez.

Visitation for family and friends will start at 1 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life Ceremony starting at 2:30 PM

Magda was a very loving person who was amazingly considerate of her co-workers and their families. She never failed to ask me about my daughter and my family despite everything she was dealing with at work and with her health.

Magda was the best nurse anyone could ask for. I worked with her closely while going through residency. She always went above and beyond for her colleagues. When Magda was around we all could take a breath knowing that she would take care of our patients as if they were her own family. That is what she was to us, family. Magda was strong and loving. Her work ethic was admirable. I can only hope to one day work alongside another nurse that is half as great as Magda. She will be deeply missed. I am thinking of her family at this time and Magda will be in my prayers.
