Memorial Gifts & Donations

Margi Wright went to be with her Lord on November 6, 2010. Born in Kansas City, MO in 1928, she was an elegant and graceful Christian lady who never lost her youthful spirit. She had a special gift for friendship among young and old, made friends faster, and kept them longer, than almost anyone. Margi brought a special warmth and exuberance to every occasion, touching everyone with her effervescent laugh.

Wife and mother, she loved tennis, swimming, dogs and travel. Margi graduated from Southern Methodist University and became an elementary school teacher. She was a licensed pilot and an active member of the 99’s – a women’s flying club inspired by Amelia Earhart.

Margi loved her birthplace, Kansas City and was active there in keeping “everything up to date” and enjoyed her role as a tour guide. Moving to Wilmington in 2004 to be near relatives, she greatly appreciated the charm of North Carolina, dear friends and her strong church community.

Margi is preceded in death by her parents Leon Roach and Venice Sleichter Roach and infant son Craig.

Survivors include her former husband, James R. Wright of Kansas City, their three daughters: Lisa of Portland, OR and Leslie and Rebecca of New York City; two grandchildren Io Tillett-Wright and Henry Wright Nye both of New York City; brother Leon (Lee) Roach of Las Vegas, NV and a sister Mildred (Milli) Meehan and her husband James of Wilmington; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Everyone who knew her will miss Margi’s bright smile and keen interest in life and people.

A celebration of Margi’s life will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Piner Road. Margi will be interred in Kansas City at a later time where a memorial service will be held.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

    Norman E. Gaar says:
My condolences to the family. Margaret and her sister, my classmate, Milli Roach were two beautiful and intelligent friends that I remember fondly from my high school days at Southeast in Kansas City, Missouri. I will miss her along with her other pilot friends, especially the 99ers,
