Marie Lillian Beavis

Mrs. Marie Lillian Cohen Beavis, 83, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 5, 1929 to the late Michael and Elizabeth Went Cohen in London, England.

Marie and her husband Arthur moved to Wilmington from London over seven years ago. Family was very important to her, especially when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren but she was very happy to take care of anybody who crossed her path. She led a very simple life and yet experienced a wealth of travel and meeting many different people all over the world.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Michael Cohen.
Surviving Marie are her husband of 62 years, Arthur Ernest Beavis of the home; son, David A. Beavis and wife Susan of Wilmington; sister, Irene Curtis of London, England; four grandchildren, Lucy and Robin of London, England and Sarah and Ashley of Wilmington; and four great-grandchildren of London, England.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Jim Newkirk officiating. Any friends will be welcome afterwards at the home of Arthur Beavis.

The family wishes if you would like to send flowers, give them to someone you love and tell them why. If you wish to donate to a charity, give to the most local one you can find in your neighborhood. When you wish to remember Marie (Nannie), think of all that’s good in this world and her face will be in your mind.

So sorry to hear your sad news. Marie was a wonderful neighbour to us in Penn Meadow. She always had a lovely smile and was very friendly. Our grandchildren have had so much fun with the slide and climbing frame that your family bequeathed to us when you relocated to America. We are sure that her last years were very happy being with her beloved family. Rest in peace.

I just received the card with news about Marie and am full of happy thoughts of the times our lives (Beavis and Gibsons) crossed during the years - Trinidad/Tobago, "The Firs" Stoke Poges, our trips to lunch at the Queens Head. My main thought is of Spud, 62 years is a lifetime of memories but I know they were 62 fantastic and fun years. A lot to be happy for but now a massive loss. Spud, David and all the family, I think of you ALL the time. I hope the ceremony went well and hope you are continuing with life as Marie would have liked. Lots of Love Michele & David here in UK (and all the Gibsons - Karen (USA), Danielle, & Lunsford (Trinidad) John (Dubai).
