Mary Ellen Edgell

Mary Ellen Edgell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023, in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was 94 years old.

Mary Ellen was born on May 19, 1929, in Painesville, Ohio, to Harold M. McFarland and Nora Reardon. She was one of 10 siblings and grew up with a strong sense of family values that she carried throughout her life.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Wilford Edgell, Jr. her parents, and all of her siblings but one. She is survived by her children, Norah Kertis and husband, Bob of Pickens, SC, Catherine Edgell or Wilmington, NC, Deborah Reid and husband, Michael of Rocky Point, NC, Richard Edgell and wife, Cindy of Delco, NC, Scott Edgell and wife, Cathy of Wilmington, NC and Denise Hinnant and husband, Patrick also of Wilmington, NC; her sister, Margie Hayhurst of Painesville, Ohio; her grandchildren Justin, Jennifer, Heather, Cody, Matthew, Sebastian, Kari-Ann, Zachary, Mackenzie, Rick, Jake, Amanda, Caitlyn, Tyler, Cal, Hayden and Luke; her great-grandchildren, Noah, Ella, Kayleigh, Courtney, Faith Ashley, , Janna, Avery, Wyatt, Rowan, Caroline, Mya, Jack, Kinley, Abby and, Easton; several great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen was a devout Catholic and was an active member of The Basilica of Saint Mary Roman Catholic.

Her faith played a significant role in her life, and she instilled it in her family. She will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature, her unwavering love and devotion to her family, and her deep faith.

A memorial mass will be held 11:00 AM Friday June 16, 2023 in her honor at The Basilica of Saint Mary Roman Catholic.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, North Carolina 28401.

Mary Ellen’s legacy will continue through the lives of her family and friends, who were blessed to have known her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
