Mary Mildred Furstenau, 83, died at her home on Oak Island, North Carolina, on October 23, 2012.
She was born on November 19, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John and Mary Peszlen. Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, Wolfgang Furstenau, their children Susan and Arthur Furstenau, and her sister Alice Carey. She was predeceased by her brother John Peszlen of Columbus, Ohio.
Mary received her secretarial training in Detroit and served in that position for several firms. She was proficient in bookkeeping and typesetting, the latter her own business venture.
As a young woman she enjoyed performing in water ballet. But her passion was painting, for the most part in oil. She had an ear for fine music and was active with the Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, New York.
Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
