Mary Ruth Cheek Phillips, age 81, of Wilmington passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 7, 1933 in Harlan County, Kentucky.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger Elmond Phillips and ten brothers and sisters. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was known for putting others needs and care first.

Surviving are her children, Sharon Hewett and husband Earl, Annette DeGroodt Pettet and husband Terry, Howard Phillips and wife Lucille, and Glenn Phillips and wife Lynn; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Harold Cheek and a sister, Sylvia Markum .

A memorial service will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A burial will follow the service in Oakdale Cemetery.
