Mattie Jones Lawhorne, age 96 a life long resident of Wilmington entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Mattie was born on November 5, 1926 to the late Thawdy Clarence Jones and Alta Letha Daniels Jones.

Mattie was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church for many years. During her career she worked at Garver Manufacturing and Block Shirt Factory. Later in her career she cared for the elderly and homebound friends.

Mattie loved her Family, Friends, her Church Family and her Gresham neighbors.

Mattie is survived by her son, Clarence Ray Lawhorne of Wilmington;  sister, Ada Cottle and husband Billy Cottle of Wilmington. Remembered is her husband, Allen Thomas Lawhorne; son, David Hugh Hill; grandson, Clarence Ray Lawhorne, Jr.; sister Doris Jones and her brother, Lonnie Jones all who preceded her in death.

The family will see friends starting at 12 noon Monday, May 22, 2023 at Fellowship Baptist Church with her Funeral Services to start at 1 pm led by Rev. Arnold Griffin. Burial will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

    We loved ants. Mattie. She was always so much a sweet soft spoken Godly lady. She always gave us at hug when we were at church while at Fellowship. Her sugar cookies were always a highlight of a get together. She will be missed but is with Our Savior now. Her faith has become sight!
