Memorial Gifts & Donations

“Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.”

Melinda Jean “Lindi” Nunn, 54, of Wilmington died Tuesday, June 15 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Lindi is survived by her son, Matthew Hinson; husband, Kelly High; parents, E.L. and Margaret Nunn; two brothers, Lannie Nunn and wife, Gail, and Scott Nunn and wife, Cece; mother-in-law, Manola Hillborn; nieces, Leigh Nunn, Isabelle Nunn, Flannery Nunn and Lori Johnson; nephew Brian Norris; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Lindi was born in Wilmington on June 7, 1956. She graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1974 and worked for many years at Pepsi-Cola Bottling in Wilmington. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and attended Church of the Good Shepherd, where she sang in the junior choir and later served as a youth adviser and altar guild member.

Lindi loved the beach and being outdoors, especially in her yard where she was the green thumb of the family, able to tend and grow plants from the smallest sprig or seed. Her gardens were so abundant that she shared her plants and they still grow in the yards of many of her family and friends. She also had a tremendous love of cats and rescued many of them.

Lindi was happiest when surrounded by family, eating blue crabs or Stump Sound oysters or just hanging out on the deck and enjoying life.

Later in her life she became a support person and source of inspiration for friends suffering from addiction, and always was there for them in times of need or just to share a cup of coffee and listen.

Lindi’s family wishes to thank all who have supported her during her illness: The staffs of Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter and Zimmer Cancer Center, Dr. Kenneth Fink, and her first cousins, Mary Barnette Hill and Sandra Moore Bost, who nursed Lindi and stayed with her mother at hospice during her final days.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Good Shepherd, Sixth and Queen streets, Wilmington.

The family requests that memorials be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice , 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401-7335.
