Memory Elenora “Eleanor” Craddock 83, of Wilmington passed away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on August 30, 2010.
She was born February 26, 1927 in Ethel, West Virginia to Alfred and Memory Craddock.
Her childhood during the Great Depression made a deep and lasting impact on her life. After the end of World War II, which also affected her deeply, Eleanor married Robert Craddock, having met him as he took a short cut through the dime store where she worked. Eleanor ran the home while her husband worked as a bricklayer. She dedicated her life to a strong belief in helping people. Her greatest joys came from doing for her family and in giving love to others. Her selfless manner touched the lives of everyone she met. Although her family and her faith always came first, Eleanor also deeply cared about history, politics and sports.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Craddock, her daughter Rosemary Long and her husband William Long, two sons, Danny and Carolyn Craddock and John and Amber Craddock, her daughter Terri Craddock, her grandchildren Michael Craddock, Chris and Jessica Long, John Sawchuk, Joey Fletcher and Maguire Craddock, her brother Wilson Craddock, her sister Vivian Ferrell and her sister in law Minnie Craddock.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Memory Craddock, her children Gary, Connie and Regina Craddock, her brothers Orville, Tim, Hassell, Johnny and Darrell Craddock, her sisters Bessie Nelson, Lola Pauley, Nola Gearheart, Roma Jeffrey, and Ona Ferrell.
Memorial Service will be 1 PM. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Wilmington Burial and Cremation with Rev. Paul Lantis officiating.
Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Donations can be made to the Gary Craddock Memorial bass scholarship at Coastal Carolina University.
