Michael Hums, 61, of Wilmington, died on October 19, 2010. Hums was born in Philadelphia on March 8, 1949, to Albert and Gladys Hums, who preceded him in death.
The family moved to Fayetteville, NC where Hums grew up and graduated from High School. Hums also graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS and Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. His career began in Greensboro with North Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation where he worked for many years serving clients with varying disabilities. After retiring, Hums moved to Wilmington where he enjoyed pursuing his hobby of photography.
Michael is survived by his son, Michael Craig Hums, of Cary, and his daughter Vicki Lauren Hums, of Greensboro. The extended family includes a sister, Sherri Hums England and husband William, of New Bern; a brother, Albert J. Hums of Brookville, FL; nieces, Katy Hums Powell and Amanda Hums ; nephews, David England, and CJ Hums.
A Memorial service will be held on October 24, 2010 at 2 pm in the chapel at Forbis and Dick on North Elm St. in Greensboro.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greensboro Heart Association , 107 Centre Port Dr., Suite 130, Greensboro, NC, 27409, or the Appalachian Scholarship fund, ASU University, Boone NC.
